We work hard to have enough variety in types of wine and sweetness levels so make sure everyone can find something they like!
The parcel where our winery and vineyard is located has been in our family for over 100 years. When Jonas Streed (Strid) left Sweden in the early 1900's, his occupation was noted as "peasant farmer", and that continued to be his primary means of support here.
Originally, the property was primarily prairie and you could see almost all the way to Highway 65 from where the tasting room is currently located. The Red Pine trees you see now surrounding our winery were planted by the family in the 1950's as part of an incentive program. They were planted by hand with no irrigation and they never expected them all to grow. We are so thankful they did!
Rumor has it that Peter Streed, son of Jonas, dabbled in winemaking during the Prohibition. There were stories about him making dandelion wine in the bathtub and another concoction that was stored in a hole in the ground under the house. They also experimented with planting some grapevines, although they never really bore much fruit.
The family's renewed interest in grapes started in 2010 after attending a University of Minnesota seminar on wine grape growing. The first vines were planted in 2013, and the current vineyard was established in 2014. We now have over 1,600 vines planted and are in the process of expanding the vineyard.
We think there is something really special about Isant County grown grapes!
